Big Daddy Tazz

The Bi-polar Buddha, Breaking The Stigma Around Mental Health
Winnipeg, Manitoba

Speaker Bio

Often described as one of the most talented comics in the business, Big Daddy Tazz has been delighting crowds at corporate events, fund raisers, festivals and on television for more than 30 years. Today, audiences are happy to join him on his rapid cycle ride down the never-ending road to recovery as he tours North America, bringing his good mental health message to audiences, drawing rave reviews and standing ovations!  Equal parts comedian and mental health advocate, Tazz educates, enlightens and inspires.

After 30 years of denying he had the mental illnesses that were controlling his life, Tazz realized that being a manic-depressive, attention deficit, socially anxious dyslexic could either destroy or enhance his life… the choice was his.

For the last 20 years Tazz has brought forth light and laughter for those living with mental Illness, by raising awareness on how stigma affects us all. Tazz believes in educating, embracing, and empowering everyone so that we can all stand tall and give stigma a bad name.

His comedy appearances include the prestigious Just For Laughs festival in Montreal, the Moncton Comedy Festival, CBC’s The Debaters and the CBC Winnipeg Comedy Festival, which can be seen frequently on CBC television and the Comedy Network. In 2023, Tazz received the John Candy Award for his work in the fields of comedy and mental health.

Whether it’s a corporate event or charity fundraiser, comedy show or mental health keynote, Tazz will make you laugh until you cry, and then laugh some more, it’s the bi-polar way.

Speaker Topics

Out of My Mind

A humourous look at life’s triumphs and tribulations through the eyes of someone living with mental illness.

Many of us will spend more time with our co-workers than we will with family members. We need to learn to recognize the signs in someone struggling, and how to reach out to help. If you break a leg, you go to a hospital, if you break a tooth, you go to a dentist, but why are people reluctant to get help for their mental health?

Audience members who live with mental illness and stigma (either their own or someone else’s), will find themselves empowered, inspired and proud of who they are. Others gain a better understanding of how the ignorance of stigma can negatively impact so many, preventing them from finding the help they seek. All will leave with the tools to make a positive, accepting difference as well as a heart full of laughter, light and compassion. An inclusive workplace, a workplace where employees look out for one another, is a safer workplace.

Tazz will take your audience on a sometimes humourous, sometimes emotional journey to challenge old belief systems, build a better understanding of mental health challenges, and reimagine a more inclusive future. A great opportunity to remind your audience of mental health resources available to them.

Testimonials

Your message constantly hit the heart strings because I could relate to so much of what you said about yourself. You made your so-called frailties your greatest strength on stage and if you can do that, perhaps, I can do that for part of my life too.

British Columbia Mental Health Event

I was at your show today. I wanted to say thank you. Life has been a dark place for me lately as our family has been dealing with the process of getting my child diagnosed and just the struggles of life. I haven’t been able to work for a year due to his mental health and mine. Your show was a light. Your show was relief. Your show was amazing. Thank you. I hope you continue to do what you do.

Newfoundland Association of Public Service Employees

PSAI was thrilled by the reception Big Daddy Tazz received at our 52nd Annual Convention & Tradeshow in Florida. His candid storytelling intertwined with humor delivered an impactful message on mental health in a refreshing style. Folks in our industry have tough jobs, sometimes physically and emotionally. As a result, it’s easy to put up a tough exterior. Tazz’s keynote reminded us to slow down and recognize the humanity in each of us. When I looked out at our audience, I saw laughter and even tears from some of the least expected faces. I was amazed at the line of folks seeking to talk with him afterwards. Tazz’s message was clearly needed, and he knew exactly how to deliver it.

Executive Director, Portable Sanitation Association International

I had front row seats to one of the most necessary shows I’ve seen in my life for your session at the Safety Seminar. And things just clicked. It was exactly what I needed to hear.
